Mick specializes in ensuring all brand touchpoints — including physical and digital — are holistically united through one experiential condition.
With an enviable track record of blending physical and virtual experiences for global brands, it’s no surprise that he’s frequently invited to speak and teach at some of the world’s foremost universities. His current position is at Pratt Institute, where none other than our founder, J. Gordon Lippincott, was also a professor.
- In your own words, what do you do at Lippincott?
I like to create an atmosphere of provocation and question the very core nature of a problem. Innovation and design cohabitate the space needed to solve the problems people didn't even know they had.
- For you, what makes Lippincott a special place to work?
Its legacy of brand and design is only superseded by its people.
- Being a Lippincott’er means ________?
Being open-minded and wide-eyed.
Innovation and design cohabitate the space needed to solve the problems people didn't even know they had.
- Which projects have been the most meaningful to you and why?
The Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi is the largest gridshell structure in the world, no two panels are alike, and was designed and built in nineteen months - one of the fastest build projects of its size in history. As the lead on this project, I learned to rely on the expertise of many and to trust in those that specialize.
- What's changed the most about the industry?
In 27 years I have seen three major recessions and amazing technological developments. But the best work - that of Dieter Rams, Rem Koolhaas, Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames - does not rely solely on trend and technology but uses what is available along with simple, functional design.
- Have you made any significant left turns, U-turns, or corkscrews in life?
I have been an architect, an author, a professor, a web developer, a furniture designer, a developer, an entrepreneur - so, yes.
